At least three versions of this encounter are known to have existed: this one, from the viewpoint of the Superius Frater; another, from that of Robenc, which has since disappeared; and a third, told as if by another person in the room, who nonetheless seems to know what the others are thinking, and who yet remains unremarked by the principals themselves. Although the present narrative is fragmentary, it is less so than the others, and of the three is most consistent with other writings in the archives.
